By now the community knows that Flanner House Elementary Charter School is to be closed because of evidence of cheating on ISTEP tests the past two years. But, when I stopped by Flanner House Elementary Charter School on Friday to attend a meeting parents had with school and city officials, this sight greeted me. Signs, hand made by the school’s students, with emotional pleas and pleadings to keep their school open. For many Flanner House students, this was the ONLY school they’ve attended. Sometimes the words from a child speak volumes that adults can’t adequately convey. Their signs and pleas touched and tugtged on my heart and soul. I hope they do the same to you. Our community owes these young people more than they’re getting.
