The Administration of Greg Ballard along with Sheriff John Layton and some Marion County Superior Court Judges are pushing a plan to move the Marion County Jail, all the Marion County Criminal Courts and the Juvenile Court and Juvenile Detention Center to a location on the a farthest outskirts of the Indianapolis Airport. On 35 acres of land right up against the Marion County/Hendricks County border. Some 14 miles southwest of downtown. Some think the jail and the courts should be moved far away from downtown so the downtown can the land can be developed for expensive housing. Others think moving the courts and jail so far away from most in the city/county would put a burden on attorneys, witness, victims, victims families, defendants, potential jurors, and employes of the courts and the jail.
