So far in the new year 2014, homicides in Indianapolis are running ahead of the same period in 2013. As of January 24th there were 12 homicides so far in Indianapolis/Marion County for 2014. At this same date in 2013, there were 11. So we’re slightly ahead of the 2013 record pace. Recently on Afternoons with Amos, two ministers who work in the means streets and neighborhoods of Indianapolis with the Ten Point Coalition came on with Amos to talk with the community about the growing violence and what the community needs to do to help stop it. Rev. Byron Alston and Rev. Horatio Luster worked in the streets. When there are tragic murders they’re out on the scene as a buffer between the police and upset relatives and neighborhoods. Rev. Luster and Rev. Alston engaged Afternoons with Amos listeners in a dialogue of trying to find solutions. The two were joined by Congressman Andre Carson who was asked what he and his authority to could do help.
