Nearly two weeks after officially starting as Superintendent of the Indianapolis Public Schools, Dr. Lewis Ferebee made his first in studio appearance on Afternoons with Amos to talk with the community about his plans to learn and start to improve IPS. Dr. Ferebee plans to do a lot in his first 100 days, between now and February 28th. Dr. Ferebee talked about his goals in his first 100 days. He mentioned his 100 Day Plan. Dr. Ferebee repeatedly talked about the quality of instruction, curriculum and the role of teachers in IPS. In the interview Ferebee also touched on his first day ride on an IPS school bus with students; his visits with teachers, administrators and schools. He also touched on the fight between Tech HS Football players and a team from Ft. Wayne that received negative attention. Dr. Ferebee stressed that coaches should be good role models for students and that student expectations should be set high. Dr. Ferebee said it was his idea for the introductory letter to students. That he wanted them to get to know him and understand his expectations for them. Dr. Ferebee addressed callers concerns about IPS schools and their children and grandchildrens’ experience.
