IFD To Hire New Firefighters
Money is on the way, after Indianapolis qualified for a public safety grant. Now Fire Department will be able to keep the doors open at all 42 Indianapolis fire houses and hire additional firefighter.
The fire department has not hired a single new recruit class since 2008.
IFD will get $4 million to pay the salaries of 39 new firefighters for at least two years, helping the staff shortage.
This grant encourages the hiring of military veterans, and will pay their salaries for three year.
April Declared a “Call To Action” Month
The city’s clergy has declared the month of April a call to action and issued an invitation to join in the month-long effort to get young people to lay down their weapons.
The Violence Free April effort will target at least five Indianapolis neighborhoods with at least 12 community-wide events throughout the month — including marches and prayer vigils.
The faith-based community has partnered with Metro police on the effort.
Utility Companies Warn of Scam
IPL and Duke Energy are warning consumers about a bill payment request that could steal your money.
Officials say someone has been calling customers, claiming that Duke will disconnect electrical service if the customer doesn’t make a payment within the hour and then asks the customer for the debit card’s receipt number and PIN.
If you get a call and think you maybe a target of the scam, hang up, and YOU call the utility company to confirm.
Biker in Hospital After Collision with City Bus
New This Morning, A bicyclist is in critical condition after crashing into a City Bus in west Lafayette yesterday.
The bicyclist has been identified as 21 year old Andrew Fant, from Chesterton, Indiana.
Video taken from the Bus shows Fant was wearing earbuds and had his head down when he ran into the bus.
Indiana Gas Prices Take Dive
Indiana Gas prices are falling! AAA said the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.61 about n 50 cents cheaper than this time last year.
Just a few weeks ago, Indiana’s average price was more than $3.75 a gallon. Prices vary in Indy with some stations around $3.30 a gallon and others around $3.75.
Indiana Teen Stabs Father after Father Orders Him To Stop Sagging
This story from Southern Indiana, where 18 year old Cody Burns reportedly stabbed his father, after he scolded him about his sagging pants.
The father reportedly told his son he should “smarten up his appearance,” that’s when Burns allegedly went to the kitchen to grab a butcher knife and stabbed his father in the chest.
He was rushed to the hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries. The boy is now facing battery charges.
