The community rose up and offered a variety of suggestions on curbing violence by teens and young adults in Indianapolis.  In a special edition of Afternoons with Amos and at a Town Hall Meeting with top Public Safety officials, City-County Councilors, Judges even the US Attorney, a variety of great suggestions were offered.  Scores shared their views at the town hall meeting and on the air with suggestions ranging from more job and job opportunities for teens and young adults, utilizing abandoned strip malls and schools for community centers and places for positive youth activities were discussed.  Public Safety Director Troy Riggs, Sheriff John Layton, IMPD Chief Rick Hite, City-County Council President Maggie Lewis, Vice-President John Barth, Councilman Leroy Robinson, Juvenile Court Judge Marilyn Moores and US Attorney Joe Hogsett shared views. At the Town Hall at Eastern Star Church teens and young adults were especially encouraged to share their thoughts and suggestions and a number did. Both on the air and at the town hall, there were strong calls for a return to family values and to empower parents to be strong enough to raise and if necessary discipline their children. Radio listeners and those at the town hall also talked about the lack of activities for young people, while individuals involved in activities for young people talked about a lack of funding or lack of attention by local media to positive youth and positive youth activities.
